We know what it’s like. Christmas and the New Year is a distant memory but here we are. It might feel like the 76th of January, money is tight, but you still need to keep everything moving along.
With the rise of car crime across the UK, it’s easy to think it won’t happen to you, but no one is safe so it pays to be secure, even when the purse strings are tightening.
With the economic downturn showing no sign of an uptick, we wanted to put together a list of the best cheap car trackers and security systems available.
As with any cross-section of products you can buy, they’ll range from the ‘cheap and cheerful’ at one end of the scale, to the ‘Rolls Royce’ premium brand at the other. Car trackers are no different, but ‘cheap’ doesn’t have to mean an empty box with no features, there are some amazing products you can get from us without breaking the bank, so let’s take a look at some of them.
SmarTrack Reco S7
The Reco S7 from SmarTrack is our most affordable tracker. It’s one of the latest products from SmarTrack aimed at the ‘hot hatch’ market or those popular cars that are often stolen for parts or by opportunities thieves just looking for a night of madness.
Whilst its DNA might be geared towards those pocket rockets, because it’s so cost-effective, it also works incredibly well protecting caravans and is approved by many insurers, saving you money on your premium.
Don’t think that at this price point, you’re not getting a tracker that meets the high bar set by the industry-leading security team at Thatcham.
Not only is it Thatcham-approved, but it’s also connected to the Global Telemetrics Control Centre 24/7 giving you complete peace of mind.

The United Kingdom, with its picturesque landscapes and bustling cities, is not immune to the rising tide of car-related crimes.
While the majority of the nation remains safe, certain areas have gained notoriety for being hotbeds of car thefts and related offences.
In this blog, we delve into the three highest car crime hotspots in the UK, shedding light on the factors contributing to the alarming statistics and the efforts being made to combat this issue.
Manchester – The Urban Challenge
Manchester, a vibrant city known for its rich industrial history and cultural diversity, unfortunately, grapples with a significant car crime problem.
The bustling urban environment, with its crowded streets and busy neighbourhoods, provides an ideal setting for opportunistic criminals.
One contributing factor to the high car crime rates in Manchester is the prevalence of organised gangs.
These criminal groups often operate in well-coordinated efforts, targeting specific models or types of vehicles for theft or vandalism. The stolen cars are either used for joyriding, stripped for parts, or sold on the black market.
In response to the escalating car crime rates, Greater Manchester Police have implemented various strategies to tackle the issue head-on. Increased patrols in high-risk areas, the use of advanced surveillance technology and community engagement initiatives have been crucial in curbing the problem.
Additionally, public awareness campaigns have been launched to educate residents on safeguarding their vehicles and reporting suspicious activities.
Birmingham – A City in the Crosshairs
Birmingham, the second-largest city in the UK, is not exempt from the challenges posed by car crime.
The city’s extensive road networks and diverse neighbourhoods offer ample opportunities for criminals to exploit. One of the significant factors contributing to the high car crime rates in Birmingham is the presence of “chop shops.”
Chop shops are illicit businesses where stolen vehicles are dismantled, and their parts are sold separately.
This underground economy thrives on the demand, not for supercars or luxury SUVs, but for inexpensive car parts for popular cars, providing an incentive for criminals to steal cars for profit. Birmingham’s expansive industrial areas and abandoned spaces often serve as hidden locations for these illegal operations.
Law enforcement agencies in Birmingham have been proactive in addressing this issue. Collaboration with other agencies, including the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency), has enabled more efficient tracking of stolen vehicles and their components.
Furthermore, increased penalties for individuals involved in chop shop operations have been implemented to deter criminals and dismantle these illegal enterprises.
London – The Capital Challenge
As the capital city of the UK, London faces a unique set of challenges when it comes to car crime.
With a dense population and a vast network of roads back alleys and industrial estates, the opportunities for criminals to strike are numerous.
Car thefts, vandalism, and even keyless car thefts, where criminals exploit vulnerabilities in modern car security systems, have become prevalent issues in London.
Keyless car thefts, facilitated by the use of electronic devices to override car security systems, have become a growing concern.
Many high-end vehicles, equipped with keyless entry and ignition systems, are particularly susceptible to this form of theft. Criminals use relay devices to intercept signals between the key fob and the car, allowing them to unlock and start the vehicle without needing the physical key.
The Metropolitan Police have implemented various measures to combat keyless car thefts, but none are more useful than having a tracker fitted that actively disrupts this type of attack.
Public awareness campaigns have been initiated to educate car owners about the risks and preventive measures, such as using steering wheel locks and keeping key fobs in signal-blocking (aka Faraday) pouches when not in use.
Additionally, technological advancements in car security systems, including many of them available in our store, boast improved encryption and signal-blocking features, and are being explored to stay one step ahead of tech-savvy criminals.
Stay Safe. Get Protected.
While car crime hotspots in the UK present formidable challenges, efforts are underway to address these issues comprehensively.
Law enforcement agencies, communities and technology developers are collaborating to create a safer environment for vehicle owners.
Public awareness, community engagement and technological advancements are essential components of the ongoing battle against car crime, but you don’t have to live in these three cities to be impacted.
As the UK continues to evolve, so too must its strategies for tackling the complex issue of car-related offences.
Through collective efforts, more awareness, installation of car tracking systems, these hotspots, and those towns and cities further down the list, can all transform into beacons of safety, proving that a united front is a key to navigating the storm of car crime here in the United Kingdom.
You can check out our whole range of trackers that are available to suit any vehicle, for any budget anywhere right here. You don’t have to live in Birmingham, Manchester or London to have one of our incredible systems installed. Our dedicated installation team can come to your work, home or office at a time and date to suit you. Give us a call on 0330 043 3993 between 9am and 6pm, Mon – Fri and we’ll be happy to help you.

Ford is not only one of the most popular cars on the road today, they are also one of the oldest vehicle brands in the world. Beaten only by Peugeot, Fiat and Vauxhall, Ford has been a driving force in the automotive world since the first Model T rolled out of their factory in Michigan in 1908.
Sadly, it’s not just the general public who find Ford cars so desirable.
The number of Ford cars stolen has increased by nearly a third since 2021, from 14.88 stolen per 1000 registered to 27.15 in 2022. Ford continued to be the most stolen car in many areas of the UK, including the West Midlands.
Ford Fiesta thefts increased 53% in 2022, according to government data. The Fiesta is not only Britain’s most popular car, it is also the most stolen, with the Ford Focus in third.
In addition, according to DVLA statistics, Fiesta thefts increased to 5,979 reported stolen in 2022, compared to 3,909 in 2021. In reality, one Fiesta was stolen, on average, every 88 minutes!
With the number of luxury cars on our roads, like Range Rovers, Porsche, Lexus and the like, you might find the rise in the theft of Ford cars odd, but there’s more to car theft than stealing sports cars and premium SUVs to order.
Many of the Ford cars being stolen are taken to back-street, often illegal garages, known as ‘chop shops’, where they are cut up and sold for parts on the black market. Given how many Fords are currently on the roads, there’s always a huge market for parts for these cars which keeps the thieves very busy.
If you have a Ford car, then keeping it secure is going to be your top priority, but how do you do that? Let’s take a look.
WHAT MAKES FORD CARS SO POPULAR WITH CAR THIEVES?
One of the reasons Ford cars are stolen with such regularity coincides with the increases in both the technology within them and the tools thieves use to steal cars. As more and more cars adopted keyless entry, the opportunities arose for thieves with the right gadgetry to circumvent it.
Keyless entry, sometimes known as a relay attack, involves thieves hijacking the short-wave radio signals that are emitted from your key fob and received by the car to unlock or start the ignition.
Under normal circumstances, you would use the keyless entry to gain access to your car, either automatically when in range of the vehicle or by pressing a button on the fob itself. Once the reciever in the car recognises the signal, the car opens allowing you to drive away.
Thieves will use the same technique, but have their own technology that can mimic that signal. They will assume most people keep their keys next to their front door so will stand near it with a amplifier that can hijack the signal from your fob, with an accomplice next to your car with a receiver.
Once the car recognises that it’s the correct signal (which it is), it will unlock the vehicle, allowing thieves to open the car and drive it away, often without you even realising it.
CAN YOU ‘A FORD’ NOT TO BUY A TRACKER?
One way to get a step ahead of the thieves is to make sure your car, Ford or otherwise, is fitted with a tracking device. We have a wealth of options available in our store to suit every budget and every need, but when it comes to Ford cars, these are the ones we’d recommend.
Let’s start with the Locate from Tracker. Tracker are one of the UKs leading stolen vehicle and recovery specialists and have been making fantastic security systems for over 25 years, their Locate system is no exception. It’s both fully featured and offers great value for money.
As the Tracker combines GSM, GPS and VHF frequencies, you will get an alert should any attempt to jam the signal be detected. As well as the most common range of alerts and notifications you’d expect, this device is connected to the UK Police force who will alerted to the location if the vehicle is stolen.
The other device, which is also from Tracker, is their S5 Plus. This system also utilises VHF technology to help protect and locate your car, but being a Cat 5 rated device, it also comes with Driver ID tags.
These incredible pieces of tech are, as the name suggests, small tags that arm and disarm the vehicle when they’re in close proximity to the vehicle. When you leave the vehicle’s area, the system will arm and only disarm when you return. Without them, the car simply won’t start.
These are just two of the fantastic range of trackers we have available on our site. If you need any help to protect your Ford or any other make for that matter, we’re here to help.
⚬ It’s not just Ford cars that thieves love to steal, the Ford Transit regularly makes the list of most stolen vehicles. Check out our van trackers here.
⚬ Don’t make it any easier than it needs to be for thieves, protect your vehicle today.
⚬ Let Infiniti Tracking help you find the perfect tracker for you that suits your vehicle, your circumstances and your budget.
When you’re ready to order, call our dedicated team who are available for you to speak to between 9 am – 6 pm, Monday to Friday, on 0330 043 3993. We can install your tracker at your home, office and any location on the mainland UK. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
As the technology in cars improves, thieves have to adapt to be able to combat those advances. The more sophisticated the trackers and other car security devices get, the more devious those looking to steal your car need to become.
For every new feature a car tracker includes, there will be a team of nefarious types looking to exploit it. The thing is, not all the techniques thieves use are particularly hi-tech. Some of them are downright lo-fi, but just as devious.
At Infiniti Tracking, we wanted to give you all a heads-up into some of the ways thieves try and steal your car. Some are specific to particular models, but in many cases can be used on a range of vehicles.
These may not always make the news or find their way into the latest trackers, but in the spirit of fore-warned is fore-armed, here are just three to be on the lookout for.
RANGE ROVERS
Whilst this technique is being used on Range Rovers, the principle is similar enough to work on almost all cars.
With all the electronic gadgetry that goes into modern-day cars, this hack circumvents most of it.
Most of the wiring that helps power a car is often hidden away in cable trunking or behind metal panels, but that’s not always the case.
Thieves have found that, by cutting a small square hole into the plastic boot lid on Range Rovers, they can access the car’s wiring that way.
Once they have access, they can effectively hack into the Range Rover’s computer system via the now-exposed wiring. We’ve certainly seen this happen a lot on the Rover, but there’s no reason why it can’t happen on other vehicles.
You can see our range of trackers especially suited to the Range Rover by clicking here.
LEXUS
As we touched upon, this technique (or ones similar to it) isn’t necessarily exclusive to Range Rovers. If you have a Lexus, then you also need to keep your eyes peeled.
Thieves have learned that they can pull off a similar trick on a Lexus. Instead of the plastic boot lid, thieves looking to steal your Lexus can do so by accessing the wiring from behind the bumper.
Again, they can cut a small hole in the car’s bumper to gain access to the wiring harness that passes behind it. Once they can see the wires, they can hack into the car’s onboard system and they’re in.
BOTTLING IT
Not all of the nefarious ways thieves use to try and steal your car need them to have a degree in electronics or even brute force, some are very basic indeed, including this one.
This one is particularly vile as it takes place when you’re in attendance and often happens in public. That said, it’s something we can all be vigilant about.
Simply put, thieves will scout car parks (usually underground or out of the way) and once they’ve found the car they want, they’ll put an empty plastic drink bottle between the tyre and the wheel arch on the passenger side of the car.
Once it’s secured, they’ll wait until you return to the car, but remain close by. Once you set off, you’ll hear the noise as the bottle bursts, cracks and pops as the car moves. You will hear this and naturally stop the car and get out to investigate. As it’s on the opposite side of the car to you, you’ll have to exit the vehicle to see it.
Thieves are banking on the fact that you’ll get out without turning off the car and without taking the key with you. Once you’re out of the car, they’ll quickly step out of their hiding place, rush you, get in the car and drive off leaving you stranded.
The battle between car security and car thieves is one as old as time, but it’s one we can win. Whilst these methods might be pretty sneaky and downright cruel at times, having your car fitted with a tracking device can be the difference between recovering your car quickly and easily and never seeing it again.
We have a huge range of devices that can make your car, safer, more secure and more recoverable than ever before. We’d love to show how.
⚬ Don’t become a victim of car crime when you can secure your vehicle with a tracker from Infiniti.
⚬ We have trackers to suit every car, every budget and every part of the UK is covered by our installation engineers.
⚬ If you need any help, give our team a call and we can talk you through the process and get it installed wherever you are.

In the ever-evolving landscape of vehicle security, one term that has gained prominence, especially here in the UK, is the Thatcham Tracker.
As car theft continues to be a prevalent concern, drivers increasingly turn to advanced security measures to protect their vehicles.
In this blog post, we will delve into the world of Thatcham Trackers, exploring what they are, how they work and why they have become a vital component in the car security market.
The Rise of Car Theft in the UK
Car theft remains a significant issue across the United Kingdom and in many places around the world, with criminals employing increasingly sophisticated methods to bypass traditional security measures.
The need for robust, intelligent solutions to counteract these threats has never been more critical. Recognising this, the Thatcham Research Centre, a leading authority on vehicle safety and security, first introduced the Thatcham Tracker system in the 1970s.
What is Thatcham Tracker?
Fast forward to today, a Thatcham-approved tracker has become a sophisticated vehicle tracking and recovery system designed to enhance car security. Thatcham Research, an independent organisation established by the UK insurance industry, sets the standards for vehicle security, among other things.
Thatcham Trackers, therefore, adhere to a set of stringent criteria to ensure their effectiveness in deterring theft and aiding in the recovery of stolen vehicles.
How Thatcham Trackers Work
Most Thatcham trackers operate on a combination of GPS (Global Positioning System) and GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) technology, whilst others also incorporate VHF, GLONASS and MESH.
The GPS component allows for accurate location tracking, while the GSM technology enables communication between the tracker and a monitoring centre. This real-time connectivity ensures that the vehicle’s location is constantly updated and can be monitored remotely, either by the user or a dedicated control centre operated by tracking system manufacturers.
In the event of a theft, the Thatcham Tracker becomes an invaluable tool for recovery.
Once the theft is reported to the monitoring centre, they can track the vehicle’s movements and liaise with the Police to facilitate a swift recovery. The speed and accuracy of Thatcham Trackers make them a formidable deterrent against thieves.
Thatcham Tracker Categories
Thatcham Research categorises vehicle tracking systems into various classes, each denoting a specific level of security and functionality.
Whilst the designations have changed over the years, and continue to evolve, the current categories are as follows:
- Thatcham Category S7: This category covers basic vehicle tracking systems with GPS functionality. While providing location tracking, they may lack additional features found in higher categories.
- Thatcham Category S5: These trackers offer enhanced security features, including motion sensing and automatic driver recognition. They are often equipped with smartphone apps for remote monitoring and control.
- Thatcham Category S5 Plus: The highest level of tracking system, S5 Plus includes all the features of the S5 but with the added capability of remote engine immobilisation. This feature allows the monitoring centre to prevent the vehicle from even starting, increasing the chances of recovery.
Why Thatcham Trackers Matter
- Insurance Approval: Many insurance providers in the UK require vehicles to have Thatcham-approved security systems for coverage. Installing a Thatcham Tracker can lead to lower insurance premiums as it significantly reduces the risk of theft and aids in quick recovery.
- Proactive Security Measures: Thatcham Trackers offer more than just location tracking. With features like automatic driver recognition and remote engine immobilisation, they actively deter thieves and protect vehicles even when the owner is not present.
- Quick Recovery: In the unfortunate event of a theft, the real-time tracking capabilities of Thatcham Trackers greatly enhance the chances of a swift recovery. This not only minimises the financial loss for the owner but also aids law enforcement in apprehending criminals.

In the fast-paced world we live in, car security has become more crucial than ever.
As technology advances, so do the tools at our disposal to protect our vehicles from theft.
One such innovation making waves in the car security market in recent years are those trackers utilising VHF technology.
In this blog post, we’ll delve into what VHF is in the context of car tracking and explore the tracking systems that leverage this technology to provide robust security solutions.
UNDERSTANDING VHF IN CAR TRACKERS
What is VHF?
VHF stands for Very High Frequency, referring to the radio frequency range between 30 MHz and 300 MHz.
In the context of car trackers, VHF technology utilises these radio frequencies for communication and tracking purposes.
The use of VHF in car tracking systems has gained popularity due to its distinct advantages over other tracking technologies.
How VHF Works in Car Trackers
VHF tracking systems operate by transmitting signals between the tracking device installed in the vehicle and a network of strategically placed ground-based stations.
These stations, often operated by dedicated tracking companies, receive and triangulate the signals emitted by the VHF device, enabling much more precise location tracking.
The Advantages of VHF Car Trackers
1. Reliable Signal Penetration
One of the standout features of VHF tracking systems is their ability to penetrate obstacles that often hinder other tracking technologies.
Buildings, tunnels, underground car parks, shipping containers and dense urban environments can be challenging for traditional GPS trackers, but VHF signals excel in maintaining connectivity in these scenarios, ensuring that your car remains traceable no matter where it is.
2. Extended Battery Life
Compared to some more power-hungry GPS trackers, VHF devices boast impressive energy efficiency.
This leads to extended battery life, a critical factor for long-term tracking solutions. With a VHF tracker, you can enjoy peace of mind knowing that your vehicle is protected without the need for frequent battery replacements.
3. Increased Accuracy
VHF tracking systems offer exceptional accuracy, especially in urban areas where traditional GPS signals might struggle due to tall office or residential blocks and other obstacles.
The triangulation process enabled by VHF technology provides pinpoint accuracy, making it easier for the Police or security personnel to recover stolen vehicles quickly.
The Best VHF Trackers
Now that we understand the advantages of VHF in car trackers, let’s explore some notable tracking systems that leverage this technology available here at Infiniti.
1. TRACKER S5 Plus
As we touched upon earlier, the Tracker S5 Plus uses a combination of VHF, GPS & GSM technology and also incorporates Driver ID tags, but it’s the VHF technology which really sets it apart from other S5 products. This makes the S5 Plus extremely resilient to signal jammers.
In addition to Europe-wide coverage, geofence and tamper alerts, the S5 Plus also provides signal jamming alerts as a result of the integrated cutting-edge technology.
You also get access to the Tracker Touch app which gives you 24/7 visibility of the vehicle’s location right from your smartphone.
2. TRACKER Retrieve
Tracker’s Retrieve model was developed to protect unpowered or infrequently used vehicles or assets like caravans, trailers, etc. The device has a long battery life capable of up to 5 years on standby.
The Retrieve has its own built-in battery so does not need to be connected to the electrical system of your vehicle. This means that the device is quick and easy to fit and suitable for all kinds of vehicles and assets such as quad bikes, horseboxes, trailers, catering vans and even classic cars.
Despite this, the device still comes with integrated VHF technology which means it’s also highly resilient to modern tracker jamming techniques, the police force can quickly and efficiently pinpoint the location of the vehicle.
3. TRACKER Locate
The Tracker Locate combines VHF with the more commonly used GPS and GSM technologies to send an alert if an attempt is made to jam the communication system.
In addition to Geofence and battery disconnect alerts, the device is also connected to all UK police forces and will inform them of the initial location of the stolen vehicle.
This functionality allows the police to employ the precision inherent within VHF technology to track a stolen vehicle to its exact location, even if it’s hidden in a less obvious place, like a shipping container or underground car park.
The Future of VHF Car Trackers
As technology continues to evolve, so does the landscape of car security.
VHF tracking systems are at the forefront of this evolution, offering a reliable and efficient solution for vehicle tracking and recovery.
As the demand for enhanced car security grows, we can expect further advancements in VHF technology, leading to even more sophisticated and effective tracking systems.
I hope we’ve shown that VHF trackers represent a significant leap forward in the quest for robust car security. Their ability to overcome the limitations of traditional tracking technologies, coupled with extended battery life and increased accuracy, makes them a compelling choice for vehicle owners looking to safeguard their assets.

SmarTrack S5+ D-ID (With Immobilisation)
The SmarTrack S5 D-iD from Global Telemetrics meets Thatcham’s strictest criteria for insurance approval and utilises a whole range of frequencies including GPS, GLONASS, GPRS & GPS tracking technology.
As well as all the features you’d expect from an S5 tracking system (such as geo-fencing, battery backup and European coverage), the S5 D-iD system also gives industry-leading protection against all modern theft methods including key theft, key cloning and relay theft.
The SmarTrack S5+ D-iD also includes an industry-first with remote immobilisation that uses your mobile device as a driver recognition system.
Instead of traditional driver ID tags that come with other systems, the SmarTrack S5+ D-iD uses your smartphone to identify you as the authorised driver of the vehicle.
It’s the most user-friendly and convenient S5 tracking system available for your Tesla or any other car for that matter! Furthermore, your vehicle can be immobilised by the trained staff at the Global Telemetrics 24/7 monitoring centre should the worst happen and the car be stolen.
MetaTrack S5 Deadlock Pro
For many trackers, however technologically advanced they might be, by using equipment bought easily online, criminals can quickly bypass much of your car’s standard security systems.
Step forward the Deadlock Pro from Meta Trak. This is the ultimate connected vehicle security system on the market combining the advanced immobilisation found in their S5 Deadlock product, but with the addition of OBD port immobilisation. A key aspect when it comes to protecting your electric vehicle, Tesla or otherwise.
In addition to this, you also get Meta Trak’s 24/7 vehicle monitoring via their professional NSI-accredited Control Centre to keep your Tesla exactly where you left it.
Vodafone Protect & Connect S5 VTS
The Protect and Connect S5 VTS tracker from Vodafone Automotive (formally known as Cobra) gives users access to their proprietary “My Connected Car” smartphone app, which gives you a whole host of features.
As you would expect from a tracker like this, it features include trip history, geofencing, speed alerts and more. In addition to low battery, motion and battery disconnect alerts, the device also provides GPS & GSM blocking alerts.
To meet Thatcham’s strict Category 5 / S5 criteria, the system also includes ADR (Automatic Driver Recognition) tags, which means that the tracking system will disarm when the ADR tag is within proximity of the vehicle and will alert the 24/7 Control Centre if the vehicle is moved without the ADR tag within proximity.
FACTORS TO CONSIDER
When choosing a third-party tracker for your Tesla, it’s essential to consider various factors to ensure compatibility and effectiveness:
Integration with Tesla’s Security System
Ideally, a tracker should seamlessly integrate with Tesla’s existing security features, enhancing rather than duplicating them. This ensures a unified and efficient security ecosystem.
Real-Time Tracking
The ability to track your Tesla in real-time is crucial for prompt action in the event of theft. Look for trackers that provide instant location updates through user-friendly mobile apps.
Geofencing Capabilities
Geofencing allows you to set virtual boundaries for your Tesla. If the vehicle crosses these predefined boundaries, the tracker sends alerts, offering an additional layer of security.
THE CURRENT WINNER
In the ever-evolving landscape of automotive security, Tesla trackers emerge as indispensable tools for safeguarding your investment in innovation.
While Tesla’s native security features lay a solid foundation, third-party trackers provide an extra layer of protection, offering real-time tracking, geofencing and additional functionalities tailored to the needs of Tesla owners and the wider EV owner’s ecosystem.
As the automotive industry hurtles toward a future dominated by electric vehicles, the importance of robust security solutions cannot be overstated.
Whether you opt for Tesla’s built-in features alone or choose to enhance it through a third-party tracker, the goal remains the same: to ensure your Tesla stays in your hands and out of the wrong ones.
Invest in innovation, but do so wisely by fortifying your Tesla with the latest in car tracking technology you get from Infiniti. After all, in the age of intelligent vehicles, it pays to be one step ahead of not only the thieves but in securing the future of transportation.

FORTIFYING YOUR INVESTMENT
When it comes to rugged versatility and timeless design, the Land Rover Defender stands as an icon in the automotive world.
Whether you’re navigating the urban jungle or conquering off-road terrains, your Defender is not just a car; it’s an investment in adventure and durability.
However, with such a valuable asset, security becomes paramount.
In this guide, we’ll explore various strategies and technologies to safeguard your Land Rover Defender from theft, ensuring that your prized possession stays where it belongs – with you.
Invest in Quality Locking Systems
The first line of defence against theft is a robust locking system. Upgrade your Defender’s locks to high-quality, tamper-resistant options.
Consider adding deadbolts or steering wheel locks to make it even more challenging for would-be thieves to bypass your vehicle’s security.
Install a GPS Tracking System
In the unfortunate event that your Defender is stolen, having a GPS tracking system can be a game-changer.
These systems enable you to pinpoint the location of your vehicle in real-time, greatly increasing the chances of recovery.
Modern GPS trackers, like those in our store are discreet, making them difficult for thieves to locate and disable.
Enhance the Factory Alarm System
While the Land Rover Defender comes equipped with a factory alarm system, reinforcing it with additional features can significantly improve its effectiveness.
You can install shock sensors, tilt sensors, and motion detectors to create a comprehensive security net around your vehicle. Bear in mind that many of those features are included in some of our trackers.
Thieves are less likely to target a car that screams for attention when tampered with.
Secure the OBD Port
Many modern vehicles, including the Land Rover Defender, have an onboard diagnostics (OBD) port that can be exploited by tech-savvy thieves.
Use an OBD lock or guard to prevent unauthorised access to this port, making it harder for thieves to manipulate the vehicle’s electronic systems.
Invest in Steering Wheel Locks
Steering wheel locks might seem a bit old-school but act as a visible deterrent and a physical barrier against theft.
Choose a high-quality, heavy-duty lock that fits your Defender’s steering wheel securely. The presence of a steering wheel lock sends a clear message to potential thieves that your vehicle is well-protected.
Park Wisely
Location matters when it comes to vehicle security. Park your Land Rover Defender in well-lit, populated areas to reduce the risk of theft.
If possible, use secure parking facilities or garages. Thieves are less likely to target a vehicle that is not secluded or hidden from public view.
Window Tinting for Privacy
Window tinting not only provides privacy for your belongings inside the car but also adds an additional layer of security.
Thieves are less likely to target a vehicle when they can’t see what’s inside. Ensure that the tinting complies with your own local laws and regulations to avoid any legal issues.
Upgrade to Smart Technology
Consider integrating smart security systems into your Defender.
Smart alarms and immobilisers can be controlled remotely through a mobile app, allowing you to monitor and secure your vehicle from anywhere. Some systems also offer geofencing capabilities, alerting you if your Defender moves beyond a predefined area.
Engrave Identification Marks
Engrave unique identification marks, such as your vehicle identification number (VIN), on various components of your Defender.
This not only acts as a deterrent but also aids in identifying and recovering your vehicle in case it is stolen.
Community Awareness
Stay connected with the Land Rover Defender community and share security tips.
Being aware of recent theft trends and sharing information can help everyone stay vigilant and take preventive measures. Join online forums, social media groups, and local Defender clubs to stay informed.
STAY SAFE
Securing your Land Rover Defender goes beyond just protecting a valuable asset; it’s about preserving the freedom and joy that comes with owning such an iconic vehicle.
By implementing a combination of physical deterrents and cutting-edge technology, you can significantly reduce the risk of theft and ensure that your Defender remains a symbol of adventure for years to come.
Take the proactive steps outlined in this blog to fortify your investment and enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing your Land Rover Defender is as secure as possible.

For those of you interested in those annual lists of which cars are the most popular to be stolen (and recovered), you probably won’t be surprised to see the Range Rover Sport remains top of the list in 2023.
The Range Rover actually takes up the first 3 spots in the list with the Sport, Autobiography and Vogue models respectively (their Evoque model also came in at #9), but that’s not what made this year so interesting.
The list for 2023 was unusual because it was the first time that a Hybrid vehicle made the list. The Lexus RX450h was a new entry at No. 6. Not only is it the first time an electric vehicle was included, but it was also the first time any Lexus made the list at all.
LEXUS BEGIN
Whilst it might feel like Lexus has been around forever, this Toyoto-owned Japanese luxury brand only arrived in 1989, reaching the UK a year later.
Since then however, it has become a staple on our roads and has become the go-to vehicle for those looking for a luxury car with a world-class build quality and that all-important sense of style.
Its appearance on the list seems to imply that the desirability of the Lexus brand has reached an all-time high (at least with car thieves), so if you’re looking to secure your Lexus and keep it out of the hands of these scumbags, then we’ve got you covered.
With Lexus having approved Tracker systems as their de rigour security partner, we wanted to look at the best Tracker-built systems to help you keep your Lexus safe. So, let’s start with..
TRACKER MONITOR
Lexus probably chose Tracker because it has an amazing track record when it comes to vehicle security and their Monitor system is no exception.
It features patented VHF technology which means that should your Lexus (or any vehicle for that matter) be stolen, it can be quickly and easily recovered, even if it’s in an underground car park or metal shipping container.
This feature also means that it’s resilient to other methods thieves use like signal jammers, making it one of the most comprehensive systems around.
It does of course come with all the alerts and notifications you would expect, thanks to its dedicated smartphone app which is all backed by a 24/7 control centre should you need it.
TRACKER LOCATE
Like our previous offering, the Locate is another fantastic tracker for your Lexus. It too comes with VHF technology, but this one also combines that with GPS and GSM frequencies that can alert you when any attempt to jam the signal is detected.
Not only that but it is also connected to police forces across the UK. Should your vehicle be stolen, forces up and down the country will be alerted of the location of the car.
The VHF signal makes locating it not only quick but incredibly accurate, so there’s no escape for the thieves.
The Locate also utilises Tracker’s ‘Touch’ smartphone app to put the power of this amazing system right into the palm of your hand.
⚬ Keep your Lexus off next year’s list by buying one of these amazing trackers.
